The Kebbi state government has taken proactive measures against corona virus outbreak the state.
The Commissioner of Health , Alhaji Ja’afar Mohammed said that the State Emergency preparedness and response committee has taken drastic measures necessary to prevent the importation of corona virus infection into the state.
Muhammad disclosed this on Thursday at a press conference in Birnin Kebbi. ‘”It is my singular honor to stand before you today to brief you on the state level of preparedness to a global health challenge of corona virus outbreak. It was on record to all of you that corona virus virus outbreak was first recorded in China and spread to many countries across the globe including Nigeria.
Currently their 8 confirmed cases in Nigeria, This has placed all states in the country to an alert mode that call for adequate preparedness for timely response to the outbreak in case it happen in accordance with necessary guidelines and protocols.
” Permit me to bring to your notice that, their is no any suspected case of corona virus recorded in the State ; and the State Emergency preparedness and response committee has taken drastic measures necessary to prevent the importation of corona virus infection into the state .
” That these measures include instituting screening of all travellers coming into the state through air and land boarders. Saying this is been done in collaboration with Port Health Division of the Federal Ministry of Health ‘,’ he said.
He Stated that an isolation camp was established for quarantine of all suspected cases identified through our surveillance system which was intensified at all levels in the state. In addition, community sensitisation to create awareness on measures to taken to prevent the disease transmission is ongoing in the community alongside active search of possible suspects.
The commissioner said ” the good people of the Kebbi state permit me to state that , our success on this fight depend largely on you individually and collectively, Areas where your support will be highly appreciated is to remain calm and focus and cooperate with our health care providers on adherence to infection preventive measures such as positive health behavior through practice of high standard of personal hygiene.
He further urged people to use of protective devices such as nose mask, covering of mouth or nose during coughing or sneezing, use of alcohol based hand rubs or soap .Further more ,we should not spread fake news about corona virus, always seek information from appropriate channel such as Nigeria Center for Disease control.
The government appealed to the public to follow precautionary measures recommended by the Ministry of Health and other relevant government agencies.
