As workers marked yesterday’s May day celebration on low key due to corona virus pandemic, Adamawa state chapters has advised state government to create more ways to improve its internally generated revenue in order to sustain payment of workers salaries.
State Chairman of NLC, Comrade Emmanuel Fashe made this known to Journalist i at a press briefing in Yola.
He said ” because of COVID19 pandemic and its socio-economic impact on Nigerian working class, there is need for government to look inward to sustain salaries in the coming months.
“The organized labour has strongly suggests the state governments should set up machineries and dynamic of multiple ways of improving internally generated revenue for sustainable growth and development of the economy in the states”.
He further explained that the NLC is deeply concerned that the workers and citizens of the state are in difficult situation following the COVID19 pandemic ravaging the country.
” There is very low economic activities occasioned in hike of prices of goods and services leaving the workers at the receiving end ”
Comrade Fashe said the giant strides taken by the state government in containing the pandemic is highly commendable and appreciated.
Noting that the Adamawa state government has sustained the tempo of prompt payment of salaries of all civil servants since the pandemic issues started.
Stressing that the “distributions of palliatives to citizens and distributed cash to commercial tricycle riders in the state has cushioned the hardship caused by the pandemic in Adamawa”
Fashe assured the governor that Adamawa workers are determined to reciprocate by be more committed to the development of the state.
” we ,the leadership of the organized labour in the state is advocating for a sustained wages and welfare of workers and other palliatives such as payments of Leave , Transport Grant for 2020 to cushion the adverse and hash socio economic realities posed by the novel COVID19 pandemic.
” The leadership of the organized labour is hereby requesting that the state government through the office of Head of Service and all local government chairmen ensure that health and safety guidelines facilities such as running water taps , strong water containers with taps , soap , hand sanitizers , protective face mask, gloves and social distancing are made available in all ministries.
He urged the well to do and top government officials and politicians to assist the government and the poor in the fight against Covid19.
