President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the immediate suspension of the embattled Ag. Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu, to allow for “unhindered inquiry by the Presidential Investigation Panel under the Tribunals of Inquiry Act and other relevant laws”.

In a statement, Dr. Umar Jibrilu Gwandu, Special Assistant on Media and Public Relations, Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice (AGF), stated this Friday.

According to the statement, President Muhammadu Buhari equally approved that the EFCC Director of Operations, Mohammed Umar, takes charge and oversee the activities of the commission pending the conclusion o investigations and further directives in that regards.
Magu was removed unceremoniously over petitions against him for sleaze and other infractions, while in office.
The Department of State Security (DSS) had twice written to the National Assembly advising against his confirmation as substantive EFCC Chairman, but Buhari ignored both the Nation l Assembly and the DSS and retained him for five years in acting capacity, raising public outcry which was totally ignored.
