The Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) has asked the residents to evolve measures that would curb floods and other disaster from occuring in the communities.
AMAC chairman’s Special Assistant on Local Emergency Management Agency ,LEMA, Hon. Nwauju in a statement on Thursday, called on business owners and property managers within the council to make necessary provisions that will not cause floods.
He said, “Business owners, traders and other residents in AMAC should support the council’s Administration to prevent disaster, especially by proper drainage system and provision of fire extinguisher as well as functional first aid.
“The Area Council is doing its best to see that flood and other disaster are not recorded in communities especially at the outskirts, so the residents should support the efforts” he said.
Nwauju appealed to relevant stakeholders to sensitize their followers on how to prevent floods as the rains are about to set in full.
Though he commended the cooperation of the Abuja Municipal Area Council residents but urged them to do more.
According to him, protection of lives and property in the council should be the concern of all, and not only to the government.
“We can overcome disaster if all of us work together, take proper care of our environment, stop illegal dumping of refuse especially in the drainages or on water ways” he said.
