Police seek Jikwoyi residents’ help on security

The Karu police Area Commander Mr. Olalekan Odumosu has tasked residents of Jikwoyi to team up with police to work towards promoting ideals community policing.

Odumosu who doubles as an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) in-charge of Karu Commad disclosed this during the inauguration of members of Jikwoyi Divisional Community Policing Committee (DCPC).

He encouraged the community members to embrace a team work with the security agents towards bringing lasting peace in the area.

The Area commander enjoined members of the public to furnish police with useful information that could lead to exposing criminal elements living in the community.

Odumosu told the gathering that the idea behind the establishment of community policing was to tackle crime headlong with the contributions of residents, just as he implored the public to regard crime fighting and control as collective responsibility at all the time.

In his remarks, the host and the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Jikwoyi Divisional headquarters, CSP Salihu Abubakar while highlighting the functions of the DCPC said the main purpose was to bring the rate of crime in the society to the barest minimum.

Speaking through the station admin officer ASP Otoabasi Michael said that to sustain the gains against crime in the society the IGP and police authorities commenced the process of implementing the community policing concept.

“The philosophy of community policing is for citizens and the police share responsibility for the community’s safety. It means that citizens and the police will work collectively to identify problems, propose solutions, implement action and evaluate the results in the community” he added.
