The Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Atiku Bagudu, has commended the All Progressives Congress (APC) for upholding democratic values and providing a level playing ground for aspirants across the country.
Bagudu made the remarks on Tuesday during a visit to the Sheraton Hotel, where he joined a delegation from Kebbi State to witness the submission of nomination forms by Governor Nasir Idris for a second term in office.
According to the minister, the large turnout of party faithful and aspirants at the venue underscores the APC’s commitment to internal democracy and inclusiveness.
“Today, I am visiting the Sheraton Hotel as part of a large entourage from Kebbi State that came to witness the submission of the nomination form of His Excellency, our governor, for his second-term bid,” Bagudu said.
He noted that the party’s processes reflect Nigeria’s democratic ideals, particularly in allowing aspirants to freely obtain nomination forms and contest without hindrance.
“I am very proud that the party is proving its mettle again in this process, where people are allowed to come freely and express their interest by buying forms and exercising their democratic rights,” he stated.
Bagudu further highlighted the party’s flexibility in extending the sale of nomination forms on several occasions, describing it as a deliberate effort to ensure that all interested contestants have a fair opportunity to participate.
“This is not surprising, because four years ago, Mr. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu freely participated in the primaries with several other contestants, because that is the tradition of our party,” he added.
The minister reaffirmed confidence in the APC’s internal processes, noting that they continue to set a standard for democratic practice within Nigeria’s political landscape.
