President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has described Akwa Ibom State as a shining example of unity, development and progress, attributing the feat to the cooperation among successive administrations in the state.
Akpabio spoke on Tuesday as Special Guest of Honour at the official commissioning of the newly acquired Airbus A220-300 Series aircraft of Ibom Air at the Victor Attah International Airport, Uyo.
The Senate President, who served as a two-term governor of the state, commended Governor Umo Eno for sustaining development initiatives and completing projects inherited from previous administrations.
According to a statement by his Special Assistant on Media, Jackson Udom, Akpabio said the commissioning of the aircraft had further demonstrated the progress being recorded in the state.
“With the commissioning of today, Akwa Ibom State has become the shining example of unity, development and progress in Nigeria,” he said.
Akpabio also pledged to work with Governor Eno in the interest of the state, stressing that political differences should not be allowed to undermine development. He said, “Rather than fight with my Governor, I will join hands with him to develop our state.”
He praised Eno for investing in human capital, particularly the training of Akwa Ibom youths for careers in the aviation industry, while also commending Ibom Air Chairman, Captain Mfon Udom, and the airline’s management for the new acquisition.
Earlier, Governor Eno thanked Akpabio for commissioning the aircraft and described its acquisition as part of Ibom Air’s fleet expansion programme. He also commended past leaders of the state for laying the foundation for the growth of its aviation industry.
