The Association of Nigerian University Registrars (ARNU) is set to convene registrars from federal, state and private universities across the country in Abuja to examine the impact of technological transformation on university administration and the future of Nigeria’s higher education system.
The six-day event, comprising the Association’s 4th Annual Workshop and 79th Business Meeting, will hold from Monday, July 6 to Saturday, July 11, 2026, at the National Universities Commission (NUC) Headquarters, Maitama, Abuja.
The workshop, themed “Nigerian Universities in the Era of Technological Transformation: Challenges, Opportunities, and Pathways to Sustainable Growth,” is expected to bring together university administrators, scholars and policy experts to deliberate on emerging challenges and opportunities in higher education.
A statement issued by the Public Relations Officer of ARNU, Mrs. Atinuke A. Oguntunde, said the conference is designed to address critical issues affecting university administration, governance and sustainable development.
It noted that the theme “underscores the need for Nigerian universities to adapt to rapid technological changes while leveraging emerging opportunities for institutional growth, efficiency, and global competitiveness.”
The association revealed that participants will deliberate on key issues including “Nigerian University System in the 21st Century: The Paradox of Funding and Autonomy”; “Nigerian Universities as Catalysts to the Success of the National Data Protection Programme: Challenges, Expectations, and Prospects”; “Managing Nigerian Universities: Perspectives from the Seat of a Vice-Chancellor”; and “Advancing Performance Systems for Sustainable Growth in Nigeria’s Ivory Towers: A Paradigm Shift to a New Era.”
ARNU said the workshop would feature keynote lectures, panel discussions and technical sessions to be delivered by leading academics, university administrators and policy experts.
Among the expected speakers are the Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission, Prof. Abdullahi Yusufu Ribadu; the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Lafia, Prof. Mohammed Musa Kida; former Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Lokoja, Prof. Olayemi Akinwumi; the National Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria Data Protection Commission, Dr. Vincent Olatunji; and the Chief Executive Officer of Edusage Consult Ltd., Dr. Florence Oluchi Sunny Ibeh.
According to the statement, the Association’s 79th Business Meeting will enable members to review its activities, adopt key resolutions and outline strategic priorities aimed at strengthening university administration across the country.
“The event reflects ARNU’s commitment to strengthening university administration and enhancing institutional capacity for sustainable growth in Nigeria’s higher education sector,” the statement added.
