The African Democratic Congress Presidential Campaign Council (ADC-PCC) has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of attempting to rewrite President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 2023 campaign pledge on electricity through what it described as selective quotations and elaborate explanations.
The council was reacting to comments by Dele Alake, spokesperson of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, defending the administration’s record on electricity.
In a statement signed by its Director of Media and Publicity, Kola Ologbondiyan, the ADC-PCC maintained that Tinubu was categorical during the 2023 presidential campaign when he told Nigerians not to re-elect him if he failed to deliver electricity during his first tenure.
According to the council, the President’s commitment was clear: “Don’t vote for me for second term if I fail to deliver electricity.”
It argued that no amount of selective editing or additional explanations could erase the promise from public memory.
The ADC-PCC claimed that, rather than eliminate estimated billing, the administration had presided over increased electricity bills, leaving households struggling to pay for power supply.
It also alleged that businesses, including hotels and other hospitality facilities, had resorted to rationing electricity and switching off power for guests during daytime hours to reduce operating costs.
