Abia State Government has honoured 11 year-old Master Ugwunna Erondu, a primary five pupil of Living Word Academy, Umuahia; and a female sports presenter with FLO -FM Radio, Adaeze Michael for their exceptional performance in sports analysis.

Presenting the award of excellence to the awardees at the indoor sports complex of the Umuahia Township Stadium, Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, Emeka Ikwuagwu, said the award was a way of encouraging excellence.

He said the duo had distinguished themselves in sports analysis, and deserved open commendation by the government to encourage hard work among youths.

The commissioner, who said the state government was determined to promote sporting activities in the state, hinted that his Ministry had proposed the construction of three standard stadiums in each of the three senatorial zones in the state.

While the 11-year-old Erondu honoured as the Youngest Sports Commentator was also awarded the Abia State Sports Ambassador of the Year, Miss Michael was honoured as Exceptional Female Commentator of the Year.

In their respective responses, Michael thanked the state government for the award, saying it would spur her to do more; while Erondu who has variously featured on AIT, TVC and Channels Sports programmes, said his target was to be the best world sports analyst.

Adding his voice, his father Erondu Jnr, said he had initially wanted to stifle the son’s interest in sports but for his wife’s advice to the contrary, thanked God that his son had, early enough carved a niche for himself.
