NGO signs MoU with UN Women to implement Second Chance Education in Cameroon.

A Non-Governmental Organisation, African Centre for Environment, Agriculture & Rural Development (ACEARD) is to collaborate with the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN WOMEN) to implement Second Chance Education and Vocational Learning (SCE) program in Cameroon.

A press release from ACEARD said a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed by ACEARD and UN WOMEN recently, in this respect.

The press release said the Second Chance Education (SCE) Program leverages partnerships, holistic approaches and innovative technology to break current trends, and provide a comprehensive solution for marginalized young women who have missed out on education and are at risk of being left behind.

“It creates pathways back either into formal education or to employment or entrepreneurship. It offers young women, their families, local communities and societies the benefits of access to educational services, which are tailored not only to their needs as learners, but also to their future as earners.

It said that ACEARD will collaborate with UNWOMEN to upscale the activities of crop farming and animal husbandry groups of SCE program in Cameroon.

“In the course of upscaling, more beneficiaries will be added, activities will be diversified and more sites will be reached. The project aimed to assist in providing effective, low cost training and support on entrepreneurship and business development in agricultural sustainable enterprises to women and girls who are refugees, IDPS and vulnerable host population.

“Since agriculture has been a major vehicle proved to be particularly beneficial for women, female-headed households, and people with low literacy levels and farmers with medium-sized landholdings
“This project which is currently implemented in Far North, Eastern and Adamawa regions of Cameroon, targets women and girls who are refuges, IDPs, Returnees and Internally Displaced Personshost population between the ages of 15 to 25.
“Signed on behalf of the organizations, Unyime Robinson, Director ACEARD and HIND Jalal, UNWOMEN Representative, the partners are committed to providing a comprehensive solutions for marginalized women and young women who have missed out on education and who are at risk of being left behind.

African Centre for Environment, agriculture and rural Development (ACEARD) is a non-profit, non-governmental organization established to promote sustainable actions that will enhance natural resource managements, environmental sustainability, poverty alleviation and sustainable development in Africa.
