The Federal Capital Territory Administration , FCTA, has given insight into why 36 new signages have been installed with 2,747 others removed.
Briefing Journalists on Wednesday in Abuja, the Director, Department of Outdoor Advertising and Signages, Dr Babagana Adam said the signages were installed to ensure standardization and environmental protection.
He said FCT as a nation’s captial needs to meet up with the international standards and would not be taken over by illegal signages littering the streets.
The director added that the illegal ones removed were threat to security and waste in the city, saying the new signages would guide new comers into the city better.
Adam said, “We have install 36 signages in the city, 2, 747 illegal ones have been removed. This is to help bring about standardization, regulations and environmental control.
“The department is not against anyone’s progress but to ensure that right things are put in place for the good of all” he said.
On the revenue drive, the director disclosed that the department in the last 6 months generated five hundred million against the 3 years that only three hundred and thirty three million was raised.
His words: “When I assumed office the revenue generated in 3 years, 2016, 2017 and 2018 was just three hundred and thirty three million, but within my first 6 months or less I was able to generate about five hundred million naira.This shows that the potential of FCT generating revenue is massive and impressive”
He urged cooperate bodies and relevant stakeholders to support the department in its quest to ensure sanity in the Federal Capital Territory.
The areas that the signages are installed include Area , zone 2,3 among many others.
According to him, the 36 signages installed so far have generated about 50,000.00 thousand job for the residents.
