After successfully defending his world boxing titles against Bulgarian challenger, Kubrat Pulev, on Saturday in London, Nigerian-British boxer, Anthony Oluwafemi Joshua, has received kudos from telecommunications giant, Globacom.
Joshua, a Glo brand ambassador, knocked out Pulev in the 9th round of the bout at the SSE Arena on Saturday night to retain his four world heavyweight titles; namely, the International Boxing Federation (IBF),World Boxing Association (WBA), World Boxing Organisation (WBO), and International Boxing Organisation (IBO).
Having already garnered 22 knock-outs before dragging Pulev- to the canvass, the world-acclaimed gladiator’s professional boxing record currently stands at 24 fights, 23 victories and a lone loss.
The total telecommunications solutions provider in a statement in Lagos on Sunday celebrated the prizefighter for recording the monumental victor, saying his “focus, tenacity and boxing prowess” earned him the win.
Globacom said it was very proud to have Joshua as one of its brand ambassadors making allusions to the TVC “Heart of a Champion”, released by the company in the run– up to the bout. The network disclosed that Joshua’s victory has further consolidated the message in the advert, “Champions go the distance and they go further”.
“Like you stated in the television commercial, ‘I was born hungry for success, it’s the Nigerian way’, you clearly demonstrated, right from the start of the fight, the determination to excel, the resilience and the ‘can-do’ spirit which Nigerians are known for, thus achieving the remarkable victory,” Globacom noted.
Joshua is primed to trade punches with Tyson Fury, World Boxing Council (WBC) Heavyweight champion, in 2021 for the undisputed Heavyweight Boxing Champion of the world title.
