A non governmental women group, the Women of Divine Destiny Innitiative (WODDI), on Wednesday, called on the former Governor of Imo state, and Senator representing Imo West Senatorial District, Rochas Okorocha to run for the presidential election in 2023.
The women, who paid a courtesy visit to the former governor at his Unity House Office in Abuja cried out to him that they longer sleep at night because of the level of insecurity in the country.
The women, who commended Okorocha for his humanitarian works said the late sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, would have honored him if he was alive for his contribution on education.
According to them, they were in his office to ask him not to relent in his humanitarian services, just as they asked him to extend such services to the health sector.
Speaking after one another, the women who represented their zones from the WODDI women voices, said that they don’t sleep because of insecurity in the country, regretting that if a woman was not rape, her child would be killed and if her child was not killed, it would be the husband.
They charged the Senator not to relent on his ambition to govern Nigeria, adding that they believe in his ability to unite the country expected peace.
The representatives of the women who concluded their retreat in Abuja spoke on the issues the considered germane to them. The issues according to them are: Education, Health, Empowerment, Gender inclusion, Culture and Tradition and Religion.
The representatives of the women that spoke were: Betty Oluntede (South West), Hadiza Ibrahim (North Central), Joyce Osaro (South – South), Zainab Musa (North West), Honor Onyebuchukwu (South East) and Fatima Saleh (North East).
Speaking on Education, one of them said, “had Chief Obafemi Awolowo been alive he would have honored you for what you are doing in Education.
We are sincerely proud of you and would stand by you. There is nothing that is giving to you that would die in you hands, Nigeria would not die in your hands.
You are a detribalised Nigeria and that is why you don’t do anything on ethnicity or religion.
On her own, the founder of Woddi Women Voices and the wife of Senator Okorocha, Dr. Nneoma Okorocha said, women are the worst hit by insecurity.
“These women you are seeing herevare not here because of political party, or religion or ethnicity, they are here because they want a good Nigeria. We cannot afford to fold our hands anymore”.
In his response, Okorocha eulogised the women and charged the to careful of what they do.
He said, “Be careful, this nation is looking for you and you have the children that we are talking about.
“l don’t fear my political opponents, l fear women. Outside God, the next people l fear are women
” When a woman stands alone, she gives birth to a baby, when women gather they give birth to a nation. What you are doing today is that you are giving birth to a nation.”
