..says 18 parties capable to win Nov 6 poll
The Chairman of the Anambra State branch of Inter Party Advisory Council (IPAC) Comrade Uche Ogwoji has called on all political parties willing to participate in the forthcoming governorship election in Anambra State to ensure that they conduct a free, fair and credible primary election saying that IPAC will condemn imposition of candidate on the people.
Speaking in a chat with journalists in Onitsha, Comrade Ogwoji who is also the State Chairman of Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) stated that IPAC will witness the primary election of the political parties and will hurriedly speak out against any political party that failed to conduct a free, fair and credible primary adding that the interest of IPAC is a level playing ground where aspirants are given equal opportunity to test their popularity.
He advised the aspirants to consult widely with leaders, stakeholders and members of their political parties ahead of the primary with a view to market themselves very well and avoid relying on godfathers who might impose them on the people, telling them that godfathers no longer exist in Anambra politics. The ZLP boss warned that the good people of Anambra State won’t tolerate imposition of candidate or any form election malpractice both in the party primaries and main election.
Asked to comment on the chances of the political parties in the Anambra poll, he said that there are no fewer than 18 political parties including ZLP that are on ground enough to win governorship election in the Light of the Nation State contrary to popular expectations that few political parties like the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) All Progressive Congress (APC) and The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) are the front runners in the race.
He added “when you talk about the election the mind of some people is that either APGA, APC or PDP could win but that is not true. I am into grassroots politics for a long time and I can assure you that we have not less than 18 political parties that are well structured on ground across the 326 wards we have in the State to win the election
“Take for instance, in 2003 APGA is nowhere near PDP which was the incumbent party in terms of popularity and political personalities yet PDP was beaten by APGA. Also in 2019 Ifeanyi Uba with a relative new political party defeated both APGA, APC and PDP in Anambra South senatorial election, so the same thing is likely to play out in November 6 because people are no longer comfortable with the popular political parties because of their poor performance.
