Electricity Theft Reason For Unstable Power Supply, KEDCO Tells Customers

From Maduabuchi Nmeribeh, Kano

The management of Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) has  explained reasons for unstable power supply within its franchise areas in recent times.

KEDCO blamed the lapses to unauthorized connection by electricity thieves whose data are not captured by KEDCO.

The company’s managment, urged customers to report illegal connections and vandalization of KEDCO installations, raising the hope that soonest, everything will be fixed for adequate power supply.

KEDCO’S explanations followed avalanche of complaints from customers over unstable power supply, low current and rampant transformer failure.

According to a Statement by KEDCO’s Head of Corporate Communications, Ibrahim Sani Shawai, “the complaints are as a result of overload on transformers through illegal connections to feed people who are not recognized in KEDCO’s distribution network.

“The activities of this group sabotages efforts to give customers full current as they have not been captured as genuine energy consumers, hence sharing the supply meant for genuine customers.

“Some of the complaints are also as a result of the activities of vandals and meter bypassers.

“The activities above translate into all these complaints from customers and this is why we are calling on our numerous customers not to allow any unauthorized persons to tamper with our connections or networks in your area.

“In this regard, for customers to continue to enjoy free flow of power supply/ distribution, the public needs to support KEDCO through timely reporting of suspected attempts to vandalize, bypass or do illegal connections.

“We are committed to the satisfaction of our customers and we need your supports to further guarantee that satisfaction.”
