Enugu gov’t tasks town unions on community development

Enugu State Government has tasked f town unions executives to embark on projects that will impact positively non the lives and economy of it” rural dwellers.

The state government also tasked them to work harmoniously with the traditional rulers in their various communities, but must not interfere with the  operations of culture  and tradition ,stating such areas are the sole responsibilty of the traditional rulers.


The state government gave this caution through its Commissioner for Rural Development, Hon Emeka Mama, while inaugurating the newly elected executives of Ahani -Achi Development Union(ADU)’ in Oji River Local Government Area.


Hon Mama represented by a Director in the Ministry, Mr Godwin Ezeilo urged the newly elected executives to work in harmony with the traditional ruler and other stakeholders for effective development of the community.


He urged them to make Ahani Achi community a modern city worthy of emulation by bringing infrastructural development and carrying everybody along in whatever project they are embarking on.


“I urge all the elected members to have confidence in their traditional ruler and collaborate for the development of their community. Your responsibility is to develop the community not to interfere on the culture of the community. Igwe has no job in the development of the community but should work in partnership with development union when the need arises”, he said.


In his acceptance speech, the PG,  Hon Kingsley Eze commended Gov Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for restoring peace in the community and pledged to work harmoniously with the traditional ruler and other stakeholders to bring development in the area.


“Today, I am here to collect my certificate of return as PG of Ahani development union. I thank God and everybody that made the election peacefully. I am thanking our governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi who is behind the peace that we are enjoying in the community today,” he said.


Speaking earlier,  the traditional ruler of Ahani Achi autonomous community, Igwe Raph Nzekwe commended Governor Ugwuanyi for impacting positively non the state having coopted  men of proven integrity and experience in his cabinet.


He expressed gratitude to the state commissioner for rural development,  Hon. Mama for ensuring the community elect their choice of candidates and promised to work harmoniously with the newly elected executives for effective development.

Highlight of the event was the presentation of certificate of return to all the elected executives which includes; PG, Hon Kingsley Eze, Secretary, Ihudiebube Chijioke, PRO, Mr  Maurice Okafor, a journalist who currently is theAUTHORITY Newspaper Rep in Enugu, Treasurer, Mr Raphael Oha and others.
