By Okey Muogbo

The Deputy National President of the Association of LocalGovernments of Nigeria (ALGON), Hon. Shehu Jega Marshal who is also the ALGONState Chairman for Kebbi State has affirmed the support of all members of theNational Executive Council (NEC) for the legitimacy of the leadership of HonAlabi Kolade David as its National President.

NEC comprises the entire membership of Local Governments andCouncil Chairmen across the Country.

This was after a well-attended close door meeting with the DIGDepartment of Finance and Administration, Sanusi Lemu and the FCT Commissionerof Police Bala Ciroma where he led a delegation comprising the NationalTreasurer, the Director of Legal and Administration and some Counsels to lodgea complaint against one Hon. Abdullahi Maje the Chairman of Suleja LocalGovernment Area who is neither the ALGON state Chairman of Niger where he comesfrom, nor a member of ALGON National Executive Council for having assented withsome thugs to break and invade the ALGON national office in Abuja on Friday16th April 2021.

According to Hon Marshal, “ALGON notes that such action iscondemnable, illegal, unwarranted and henceforth, will no longer tolerate suchuncivil brigand and self-centered brinkmanship by way of invasion, impersonating, publishing libelous claims against the present ALGON leadershipled by Hon. Alabi Kolade David and his Exco, to smear his image or that of theAssociation or in any manner of using the name of ALGON to advance his personalgains thereby undermining the public confidence in the Association.”

It will be recalled that the Board of Trustees of ALGON led byits Chairmen Hon. Odunayo Ategbero on behalf of its members had sincedisclaimed the same actions and activities of Hon. Abdullahi Maje and pledgedunflinching support to the Alabi led Exco and the Director General of ALGON inthe person of Hajiah Binta Adamu Bello.

The NEC, Marshal went on, therefore appreciates the State Excos,Chairmen of LGAs and Councils in Nigeria for their unbroken support andloyalty.

“NEC would also appreciate the Nigerian Police and The Judiciaryand other Security agencies for their continued support in safeguard andmaintenance of Law and Order.

“ALGON counsel to Maje is to use the funds available to him tofocus on the humungous developmental challenges and infrastructural gapsbesetting the industrious Suleja Local Government that he appears to haveneglected.

Finally ALGON at the moment has rebranded to address severalchallenges facing the 3rd tier (of Government) and will NEVERbe distracted under Hon. Alabi led Exco. It is drawing strength on itsConstitutional powers and wide support from both the Federal and StateGovernments as well as MDA’s, and Institutional partners.

“ALGON now indeed is positioned as a breeding ground for qualityleaders, to bring unity in Nigeria, entrench peace and serve as anInstitutional memory for research and evidenced based development for the wholelocal governments and Councils in Nigeria”, Hon Marshal added.
