Kwara State Governor Abdulrahman has publicly endorsed Ambassador Abdulfatai Yahaya Seriki (MFR) as his preferred successor under the platform of the All Progressives Congress. The announcement comes ahead of the party’s gubernatorial primaries scheduled for Thursday, May 21, 2026.

The governor said the decision followed extensive consultations with party structures and leadership across the state. He described the endorsement as a step toward ensuring cohesion and continuity within the APC as it prepares for the primaries.

AbdulRazaq characterized Seriki as young, pro-people, astute, and broad-minded. He noted that the ambassador has demonstrated strong political mobilization skills and has built significant goodwill among the people of Kwara State through his investments and engagement with communities.

Expressing confidence in Seriki’s capacity, the governor stated that he had no doubt about his suitability for the role at this time. He said the choice reflects what he believes is appropriate for the people of Kwara State in the current political moment.

The governor clarified that the endorsement does not prevent other aspirants from contesting in the primaries. He urged party members and leaders to affirm Seriki’s candidacy to strengthen unity and sustain the party’s success in the state.

He emphasized that selecting Seriki was not a disapproval of any of the other aspirants, all of whom he described as eminently qualified. AbdulRazaq added that the move was not intended to delegitimize the aspirations of other contenders in the race.

Acknowledging the competitive nature of the contest, the governor pointed out that with about 16 aspirants vying for a single office, only one candidate can emerge to represent the party. He called for discipline and focus as the process moves forward.

In closing, AbdulRazaq commended the statesmanship of all aspirants, noting their discipline and capacity to build on the achievements of his administration over the last seven years. The statement was signed by Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, CON, Governor of Kwara State, and dated May 19, 2026.
