From Isaac Ojo

Coast is now clear for the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Seahorse Lubricants, Chief Ebuka Onunkwo to pick the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) ticket for Anambra South senatorial zone.

Chief Onunkwo’s chances became brighter following his wide acceptance by a good number of his constituents, and the sudden withdrawal of Hon Chris Azubogu from the race.

The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer CEO of Seahorse Lubricants, is acclaimed for his deep pocket and large heartedness.

Hon Azubogu, a former member of House of Representatives was one of the top contenders for the NDC Anambra South senatorial ticket.

He was actually the flag bearer for All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in the last dispensation, but lost to Sen Ifeanyi Ubah of blessed memory who ran on the platform of YPP.

“This decision was not taken lightly.
I remain deeply committed to the progress, development, and overall advancement of Anambra South Senatorial District and will continue to serve our people in whatever capacity I am called upon.

“At this moment, however, I therefore formally announce that I am no longer vying for the Anambra South Senatorial seat under the platform of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).

“I pledge my full, unequivocal, and unwavering support to our great party, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), our Presidential candidate, His Excellency Mr. Peter Obi.” Azubogu said.

He also called on all his supporters, loyalists, and well-wishers across the seven Local Government Areas of Anambra South, to close ranks, and remain united.

Similarly in Anambra North and Central senatorial zones, the duo of Sen Tony Nwoye and Sen Victor Umeh looks good to pick the ticket for their respective zone.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) in a statement signed by Sen Moses Cleopas, National Chairman and Barr. Ikenna Alex-Morgan Enekweizu, National Secretary said that the primaries scheduled to hold nationwide on May 29th, 2026.

The statement reads in part, “No agencies of the state, viz: Police, INEC, DSS, etc., are to play any role in the programmes and meetings, Any activities carried out outside these guidelines would be unauthorized and deemed illegal.

“The processes of the primaries on May 29 will be as follows: Presidential affirmation, National Assembly primaries/affirmation, State Assembly primaries/affirmation and Governorship primaries/affirmation

“The respective teams will collate and process all results and forward them to the National Headquarters, where the National Working Committee will announce the results.

“No state executive or team has the mandate to announce any results.
We call for understanding and urge all participants to conduct themselves responsibly, as the party has zero tolerance for violence, disorderly conduct, and hooliganism.”
