Ezeagu LG chairman inaugurates security committee

As part of measures put in place to fight insecurity in  Enugu state, the Chairman of Ezeagu Local Government Area (LGA), Enugu State, Hon. Chukwudi Ani has inaugurated a security committee to tackle insecurity in the area.

Ani, who inaugurated the committee at the LG headquarters in Aguobu Owa, said the move was to ensure the protection of lives and property of people the the LGA.


He said  Governor  Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi and his deputy,  Hon. (Mrs) Cecelia Ezeilo  were members of the committee.  

Other members are thr Enugu state House of  Assembly member from the area, Hon. (Barr.) Chima Obieze,  traditional rulers, Presidents-General of autonomous communities, ward councilors and other relevant stakeholders in the area.

Ani said that they were adopting the security and peace model of the state government to ensure that the area was calm and safe.

He charged members of the committee to come up with ideas that would stem the challenges of insecurity in the area, adding that the entire state would become free of crime if the rural areas were safe.

Responding, Chairman of the committee and Traditional Ruler of Eziowa Community, His Royal Highness, Igwe Francis Okafor, described the inauguration as ‘novel’.

Igwe Okafor said that it had become necessary for everyone to contribute to the security of the society considering the current situation in the country.

Speaking also, the Chief Security Officer of the Local Government Area, Benjamin Uzoechi, said that the committee was an idea whose time had come.

Uzoechi said that the people of the area had long expected such initiative, adding that the committee would do its best at ensuring the protection of lives and property in the council.
