Enugu state govt plans for civil servants to own houses

The dream of low income workers and civil servants in Enugu state to be proud owners of their own houses will soon turn into reality, as the present administration in Enugu state led by Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi has embarked on a project of building two bedroom and One bedroom bungalows in the state with a gestation period of 20 to 30 years for civil servants.

The Managing Direct6or of Enugu State Housing Corporation[ESHDC] Mr Chukwuemelie Agu dropped this hints  as part of the present administration’s effort in solving the accommodation problem in the state and more importantly, de-congesting the city metropolis.

He said the state government having successfully developed about ten new housing estates in the capital city, this time around the state government is working on a blue print to develop low income houses across the three senatorial zones of the state..

According to him, the ten housing estates already developed by the present administration in Enugu state includes the WTC estate, Sunrise estate, Heritage estate, Transparency estate, the Citadel estate, Rangers estate one and two, among others.

He revealed that the project has already commenced with the construction of the first phase of 100 units of housing at Coal City view estate, at Ugwu onyeama hills, will be consolidated with the second and third phases thereafter.  He disclosed that under the state social housing scheme another 500 units of houses will be constructed at Ehalumona Nsukka, to curtail accommodation problem in Nsukka urban area. He further disclosed that the state government in partnership with the ‘Family Home Fund’ is developing another 250 housing units at Obe -Umueze communities [beside ESUt gate] in Nkanu West local government area of the state, as part of efforts to de congest the city metropolis.

He disclosed that as part of Governor Ugwuanyi’s administration in ensuring even spread of social development across the three senatorial zones of the state, a low income housing estate will also be developed in Ugwuoba town, in Oji River local government area of the state. He assured that in the next twelve months a total of 1,500 units of low income houses will be fully developed in Enugu state .He urged civil servants in the state to embrace the scheme.

The ESHDC Managing director explained that the Family House Fund’ is a social housing scheme initiative from the federal government with a proposal of building a 500 units of housing across each of the state of the federation, stating Enugu state was selected to be among the first benefactors based it’s peaceful disposition. However, he disclosed that in as much as the said funds are yet to be disbursed but the state government will commence the project since it is for the benefit of the residents.

The ESHDC boss while conducting a group of news men on facility tour of the Coal City View Estate explained that each of the low income estates will have provisions for mini market, schools, link roads etc for the comfort of the residents.
