Kanu’s Arrest: South East demands equal rights, justice -Anyanwu

By Everest Ezihe, Owerri

Following the recent arrest and arraignment of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu by Federal Government of Nigeria Senator Samuel Nnaemeka Anyanwu says that what the South East geopolitical zone is demanding for were equal right, justice and fair play in his trial.

Anyanwu, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stalwart in Imo State and the Distinguished Senator that represented Imo East Senatorial Zone in the 8th Assembly stated this in a press statement issued by his media aide, Mr Mr. Ikenna Onuoha and made available to news men in Owerri.

The astute politician while citing Peter Tosh of blessed memory and a reggae musical idol to justify his statement, he maintained that Igbo people are not crying for peace, but for equal rights and justice in Nigeria, adding that until genuine dialogue is put in place, the call for one Nigeria will be a tall dream.

According to him, “as Nigerians are waiting for the outcome of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s trial, the entire world is equally watching carefully if fair hearing and laid down legal processes will be seen to have been applied”

Senator Anyanwu therefore cautioned any political office holder making inciting statements or mocking the South East over the arrest of the leader of IPOB to desist and allow the law to take its cause, warning that such comments are capable of creating ethnic crisis.

According to him “it is unnecessary for any person occupying a position of trust to spark off another security tension now that the masses are coming out from similar challenges few months ago. My candid advice is for all regions in Nigeria to respect the South East not as a tribe but as one of the major ethnic groups in Nigeria.” He stated

While calling on the Igbo to remain calm, he also wondered if what the Minister of Information and Culture, Mr. Lai Muhammed said that Mazi Kanu’s trial would follow due process will be realistic.

Uwazuruike to address Harvard Law students on state of Biafra. From Everest Ezihe, Owerri. There was excitement among members of Movement for the Actualisation of Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) and Biafra Independent Movement (BIM) as their leader Chief Ralph Uwazuruike has been invited to address the world through zoom today Monday 12th of July by 2 pm Nigerian time on the state of Biafra.

The Students invitation is coming under the auspices of the Unrepresented Nations and People’s Organisation,UNPO and United Nations,UN International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights geared towards the determination of the land use/ border rights and extra-territorial obligations of Nations in their genuine quest for Self-Determination, and in engaging with foreign relations and trade agreements with other states .

In a press statement issued, endorsed and made available to Journalists on Sunday by Uwazuruike’s Personal Assistant on Media Matters, Elder Chris Mocha, said the Havard Law Students listed discussion of Biafra as a priority.

While promising to make the link of the live programme available to the public few hours before the time, Uwazuruike enjoined other pro -Biafra movements to avail themselves of this opportunity so as to be part of the historical event.

He also passionately advised fellow Nations of the world canvassing for Independence to honour its principles regarding Self -Determination , and to play its usual role in this area, focusing on the self determination process for Biafra as a veritable case study.

Uwazuruike added that, having studied the factual evidences of atrocities committed against the people of Biafra by the Nigerian state from 1960 till date, he is hopeful that UN will grant Biafra the much awaited Independence.

He called on fellow Nations of the global community to fully excercise the will to support the UN principle of Self-Determination , and to avoid being hypocritical permitting Self Determination only in Europe , America for examples, while at the same time denying the same right for Africa – in this case of Biafra.
