CDS, Borno gov meet over reintegration of Boko Haram/ISWAP ex-fighters

By Chuks Oyema-Aziken

The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Lucky Irabor, has granted audience to the Executive Governor of Borno State, his Excellency, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum who was at the Armed Forces Complex, Abuja.

The close door meeting between the Governor and the CDS was centred on lastest feats being recorded in the military counterinsurgency/terrorism operations.

The Governor was at DHQ to consult with the Defence Chief on the process of De-radicalization, Rehabilitation and Reintegration  (DRR) of low risk Boko Haram/ISWAP ex-fighters who recently surrendered to the Armed Forces.

Recall that the DRR programme which is under the auspices of the DHQ led Operations Safe Corridor (OPSC) was inaugurated in 2016.

Intensified military operations in the Northeast region has forced several of the fighters to abandon the Boko Haram sect.

Some of them have surrendered with the families to military authorities.
