Nigerians tasked on reading culture

Nigerians have been tasked to imbibe and improve on their reading habits to ensure Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4 (quality education) in the country.


This was the highpoint at the book donation and internet facility sponsored by the Msc. Students of Mass Communication, Development Communication  Sequence, at the Nasarawa state University (NSUK), Keffi, on Friday. 


Mass Communication Head of Department (HOD) Dr Josiah Sabo-Kente commended the students for the initiative, saying that, “This is the first set that came with so much initiative as PG student’s. I am so proud,” he said.

He stated further that, by the National Universities Commission (NUC) rating, in the whole of the North, the PG in NSUK has been rated best.

This is because of the leadership and support of the institution.”He used the opportunity to thank the department staff for their cooperation; adding that, he will make the school proud.He thanked the donors who supported the students achieve their laudable goal and urge other sponsors to do same in their own space. 

He however, appealed to the chief Liberian to deploy a Liberian to the department library for efficient management of the library. 

He commended the course lecturer Dr Godswill Okiyi for his quality of teaching, experience, commitment and initiative to bring the best out of the students.One of the lecturers at the event, Dr Anthony Igyuve commended the students for giving this “timeless gift” to the institution. 

“I am told that if you want to hide something, you hide it in a book. Nigerians don’t read. I hope you (the students) will read these books.”

The project coordinator, Chidi Iloamaeke stated that the students embarked on this project to enhance teaching and learning, thereby deepening quality education in the institution.

“It’s not just ending with this book donation.  We will continue to give back to the society,” he said.

The students also donated waste bins to the department to address the issue of waste littering within the premises.
