The Coalition of Eastern Non-Governmental Organisations,CENGOs, Akwa Ibom State chapter said it has rescued a fifteen-year-old residentof Ikot Abasi Idem Ibesikpo Local Government Area of the State whose penis was allegedly cut by his biological father, Peter Raymond.

The State Coordinator of CENGOs, Mr. Israel Ekanem whodisclosed this to our correspondent in Uyo said the victim was picked up by theroadside almost dead by one of his members.

He said the victim was immediately taken to Shelter Afriquepolice station, Uyo and was treated in the police clinic free of charge.

His words, ‘There is a pathetic case of male child abusehappening in Uyo where a biological father of a 15-year-old boy allegedly cutoff the boy’s penis.

“The boy was picked up by a good Samaritan by the roadsideabout a week ago almost dead. He took him to Shelter Afrique Police Station. The DPO in a bid to save the boy’s life took him to hospital where he wasrevived after one week and the hospital bill settled by the police.”

The NGOs’ coordinator narrated that after the boy wasdischarged from the hospital, the police took him back to his father’s housebut only saw the stepmother and instructed her to report to the station withher husband when he comes back adding that instead of doing so, the coupleallegedly abandoned the child at the compound and absconded.

“After discharge, the Police took the boy to where thefather and stepmother live and handed him over to the stepmother in the absenceof the father who is a Keke driver. The police after handing over the boyinvited the stepmother to report at the station with the boy’s father.

“Instead of reporting to the police they abandoned the boyin the compound and took to their heels. The boy has been with the landlordsince then until today when he decided to return the boy to the police.

“Since the police have nowhere to keep the boy I haveadvised the IPO to take the boy to FIDA so that a Court order could be obtainedto remove the boy from the abusive environment to the children home for hisprotection while the police would intensify efforts to get the parents arrestedto face the law.”

However, when the police Public Relations Officer in theState, SP Odiko was contacted he confirmed that the boy was brought to one ofthe divisions by a good Samaritan, adding that the DPO ensured that the boy survivedby taking him to the hospital for treatment and paying the hospital bills.

On whether the man cut his son’s penis, the PPROinterrupted, “who said so? The boy, we were told did something wrong at homeand the father beat him. Though we condemned the manner he was beaten.

“He was actually given some wounds and was bleeding; he ranaway from home and fell along the bush path where he was picked up by theperson that brought him to the station almost unconscious.”
