Scrap, waste dealers strategies to put an end to activities of scavengers

The President, National Association of Scrap and Waste Dealers Employers of Nigeria, NASWDEN, John Egaji Obe has assured Nigerians that the association is in partnership with the Police, Nigerian Security Civil Defence Corp, NSCDC, and other law enforcement officers to checkmate activities of scavengers in the country. 

Obe disclosed this at the National Executive Meeting of National Association of Scrap and Waste Dealers Employers of Nigeria in Abuja, adding that a centralized dump will be set up in the six geo-political parts of the country, with all the dumpster being licensed, a police post attached to all dumpsters for proper management and checkmating of scraps and waste entering the site.

The association has just signed a Memorandum of Understanding, MOU with the ministry of Industry Trade and Investment for the setting up of these dumpsters in different states round the country. The setting up of these dumps will generate good revenue for the federal government.

He also said that, “The association has been on ground for a while now, as revenue returns are made to the government through the ministry of Labour and Productivity. The government does not create jobs, what it does is to create enabling environment for businesses to thrive, the government’s benefit is taxation which the association is generating and giving back. 

“We are overwhelmed with reports of these scavengers stealing manholes, generators, household use and others, this things they steal are going somewhere, by the time these legal dumpster are established, it will be easy to track them, because they will have nowhere to take them to without being caught. 

Speaking, the deputy National President NASWDEN Baba Liman said there are lots of unregistered dumpsters in Nigeria presently,  for the benefit of Nigerians there is need for a centralized dumpster, henceforth all dumpster not registered with the association will be considered illegal.
