Nigeria drifting towards precipice – Falae

A former Secretary to the Government of the Federation,Chief Olu Falae, has stated that the country is already drifting towardsprecipice due to the surging insecurity situation and the country’s state of economy.

According to the elder statesman, if the activities ofbandits who were already shooting down military jets were not checked on time, they would soon develop the boldness to negotiate over territory control.

Chief Falae, who stated this in Akure, the Ondo Statecapital, emphasized that indices prepared by international bodies that Nigeriahad become the corruption capital of the world, unemployment capital of theworld and underdevelopment capital of the world were indications that thingsare getting worse.

“We are already at the edge of the cliff. The question is,are they going to topple into the abyss below? Or are we going to find a way ofpulling back from the precipice? That is the question.

“For us to pull back, there must be a political initiativethat will signal that tomorrow will be better than today. If there is no suchsignal, I don’t know what is going to happen tomorrow, I don’t know.”

While berating the present administration on its continuedstance on grazing routes, Chief Falae, maintained that the government ought tobe saddled with how to identify and solve the major problems currently facingthe country.

“We are almost at the verge of a civil war and yet thegovernment is talking about the routes that cattle will take from somewhere toanother place, how to set up colonies for cattle as if cattle is the onlybusiness of Nigeria.”
