In line with the 5Ps strategies of the Agency- Policy, Prevention, Protection, Prosecution and Partnership,the new director-general of National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), Dr Fatima Waziri Azi, has rolled out five strategies upon which he would strive to meet the mandate of the agency.
In a statement he issued at a press briefing on 28th of October 2021, Dr Fatima Waziri Azi.
stated that her mission is to consolidate on the achievement made so far by the Agency. According to the DG, ‘ my mission is to consolidate on the achievements of the Agency and coordinate the responses of the state and non-state actors in the fight against human trafficking in the country with a view to taking Nigeria back to the envious height as a leading country in counter trafficking.
NAPTIP DG stated that Nigeria was one of the very few countries to have a full-fledged counter trafficking agency in the world and the first in Africa.
It is a known fact that human trafficking has continued to evolve in line with globalization especially with the Advent of technology, according to the DG, human trafficking is not a problem, it is a CRISES! This she said emperical evidence has shown that trafficking in persons has become the third largest criminal Enterprise globally and second among transnational organized crime. And in this regards, the agency have strengthen it relationship with Nigeria judiciary to enhance straight Prosecution of human trafficking.
Dr Fatima Waziri stated that in achieving the desire objective for the agency, diligent implementation of a four (4) points strategic priority in line with the (5 PS) strategies of the Agency i.e Policy, Prevention, Protection, Prosecution and Partnership will be considered.
According to the DG, the first strategic priority is: Enhanced conviction of high profile traffickers and increase Prosecution of sexual and gender based violence. The second strategic priority is enhancing the Prevention of Trafficking in Persons through increase and consistent awareness creation and sensitization deliberately designed to educate people about human trafficking.
The third strategic priority is a sustainable and evidence based rehabilitation, reintegration and empowerment programs for survivors of human trafficking, while the fourth strategic will focus increase visibility of the Agency and it’s partners.
In conclusion the DG, NAPTIP expressed profound appreciation to numerous partners and stakeholders who believe in the agency goals and objectives. DG concluded.
