We’re keen on promoting success of young Nigerians – NCC

The Executive Vice-Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Prof. Umar Garba Danbatta, has emphasised that the success of young Nigerians is a key agenda of the commission.He added that the NCC is poised to challenge the creative and harness the innovative prowess of the young digital driven population.


Danbatta made the disclosure at the presentation of grants to winners of the 2021 NCC Internet of Things (IoT) Code Camp and Hackathon on Thursday in Abuja.


Represented by Dr. Alhassan Haru, a Director in the commission, the NCC boss said: “In this year’s hackathon, our goal is to challenge the creative and harness the innovative prowess of our young digital driven population to develop smart solutions leveraging, emerging technologies in addressing the challenges of Banditry, kidnapping and e-waste management.


“I understand that the winning start-ups have come up with promising innovative digital solutions that will serve as a force booster in the fight against crime and criminality, as well as assistive robotics technologies for effective e-waste management.


“The event of today boldly demonstrate the commission’s resolve to champion the efforts of government, to leverage telecommunications based solutions, to address societal issues that need urgent attention while being mindful of our role as mandated the by National Digital Economy Policy and Strategy (NDEPS) 2020-2030.


“Let me extend my profound congratulations and encouragement to the winners of this competition. “They have shown that all our efforts to become part of the global digital innovation stage are yielding fruits and we do hope that these innovations will bankable and marketable to the local, national and international market places,” he stated.


High point of the occasion was presentation of grants to winners of the hackathon, which include Clear Flow System, Atlaw Engineering, Kalibotics and Cybernut Tech, N5 million each, as well as assurances of consolation prizes for all the contestants.


Mr Chimeze Amadi, Head, Emerging Technological Research of NCC, while giving his vote of thanks congratulated the winners and assured them that “We will work with you every inch of the road.”
