Electoral bill: Buhari has made history -El-yakub

The Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to President Mohammadu Buhari on National Assembly Matters has said that President Muhammadu Buhari has made history for assenting to very critical bills that has benefited Nigerians  since his administration.


The former lawmaker from Kano State, Umar El-yakub made the commendation while briefing journalist in the National Assembly.


According to El-yakub,  the current Electoral Act as signed into law by President Buhari will set being about free fair and a more transparent elections in 2023.


“I will like to thank President Buhari for passing very critical historic bills like the PIB (Petroleum Industry Bill),  the Electoral Amendment Act, the Climate Change bill, CAMA (Company Allied Matters) bill, the Deep Offshore bill, and others. All these bills will bring about life time achievements to the Nigerian people.


“I commend the President for the several infrastructure going on across the country”, he noted.
Meanwhile, El-yakub also hailed Nigerians for their commitment in anchoring the process of several bills and policies that have brought about positive changes in the country.


“I commend the Speaker of the 9th House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila for passing into law the constitution. I commend NASS for the singular commitment of passing both executive and private bills promptly.
‘The reversal of the budget calendar from January to December circle is certainly something to commend the National Assembly for.


“I commend the Speaker for going a long way in deepining democratic processes. National Assembly has been consistent with the policies of the government. Take for instance, the Finance bill, the Midterm Expenditure Framework and other critical legislations that have been passed”.


He continued, “We commend the National Assembly for giving INEC (Independent Electoral Commission) the necessary tool to organize a credible election because the framework has been improved”.

Similarly, the SSA thanked the media, civil society and Nigerians for their collective roles in some of the piece of legislations passed so far.


“I congratulate Nigerians for having laws that will serve them successfully. I commend the Nigeria Press, the Civil Society for bringing to bear the pressure that Nigerians are given the laws that informed the passage of these bills.
“We thank the media for the constant coverage of the National Assembly to enlighten Nigerians on the workings of the parliament”
