Atiku missing as Saraki, Tambuwal, Mohammed meet in Abuja over consensus candidate for North

Three Presidential aspirants from the North comprising of Govs Aminu Tambuwal, Bala Mohammed and Ex-gov. Bukola Saraki have resolved to come together and ensure that they present a consensus candidate. The trio also said that they will approach former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to draft him into the consensus arrangement.

Addressing journalists after a meeting of the trio in Abuja on Thursday, Saraki said that the northern aspirants want to come up with a consensus because the welfare of the country is more paramount to their individual aspirations.

The meet was however held without former vice president Atiku Abubakar, who the trio said they will consult in their next meeting ahead of the consensus choice

“The major issue and message we want to put across to Nigerians is that the country is larger and bigger than our individual interests and we’re committed to the process. We believe that once we unite as PDP, we’ll lay the foundation there for a strong party that will help in delivering Nigerians from the challenges that they’re facing now and prepare for the country to be much stronger as we go ahead.

“So this is a process which we think and it is important we keep you informed that all we are doing is for the interest of the party and for the interest of the country.

“Those interests should not be larger than interest of the country. Here is a better opportunity of building a strong government. So our plan is that yes, there are challenges. Of course, we’re all eminently qualified even those who are not here who we are going to meet with. That’s why we’re going to meet with everybody to reassure everybody that all zones across the country, let us continue to discuss and meet to address those challenges.

I’m hopeful that we will overcome those challenges because our desire for a better Nigeria is what is really driving us and when we do hope that we will do it.

The former Senate President said that the trio will expand it’s discussions to accommodate the aspirations of Atiku Abubakar.

“We’re not shutting anybody out. As we said we are going to see him. We’re going to see other aspirants. There are other aspirants in the party. This is not about shutting anybody out. It’s about uniting everybody with the interests of this country and you will see it when we begin to move around, but we’re not limited to anybody
