Further indication that former Deputy Senator president, Ike Ekweremadu, who is currently representing Enugu West senatorial district in the national assembly is into the 2023 Enugu state governorship race has emerged,as his posters are seen in various parts of Enugu metropolis.
Ekweremadu officially made known his intention to join 2023 Enugu guber race on the platform of PDP to the Nigerian press in Enugu two weeks ago, with his agenda tagged”A pathway to a new Enugu state” amidst controversy trailing which zone of the state should the next governor of the state in 2023, to succeed Governor Ugwuanyi.
Checks revealed that Senator Ekweremadu is the first among the much rumoured 2023 Enugu intending guber aspirants who took the bold step to tell news men of his intention to contexti and his aspiration is further consolidated with fleet of posters.
A former Senator of Enugu East senatorial district,Senator Gil Nnaji,about a wreek ago was reported in the media to have also declared his interest in the struggle for the next occupant of the “Lion building” (Enugu government house),but not much have been heard from him since thereafter, unlike Senator Ekweremadu who announced the leadership of his campaign organization under Hon Ogbonna Asogwa, a former commissioner in the state.
Meanwhile, the expectations of oroducing the PDP guber candidate from Enugu East senatorial district on the basis of zoning formula is still a tall dream, as Governor Ugwuanyi and the leadership of PDP under Hon Augustine Nnnamani, are yet to take a definite resolution on which local government of Enugu East senatorial district should take the slot.
The likes of Sir Chinyeaka Ohaa from Nkanu West council area, Barridter Chijioke Edeoga from Isi Uzo, Chief Evaristus Nnaji from Nkanu East, Hon Cornelius Nnaji from Enugu East council area, Speaker Ubosi, Prof Barth Nnaji, Mr Peter Mba from Nkanu East council area, among others, rumoured to have interst in the guber race, are anchoring their fate on the decision of Governor Ugwuanyi.
A former governor of Enugu state and current senator representing Enugu East senatorial district, Senator Chimaroke Nnamani, has said it is the prerogative of Governor Ugwuanyi to announce his preferred candidate from their district and they will all concur.
