The Bishop of Kubwa Diocese, Methodist Church of Nigeria, Rt. Rev. Chikwendu Igwe, has called on Christians to be actively involved in issues of governance and peace building in Nigeria.
He made the call at the 10th Annual Diocesan Synod and Anniversary of the Kubwa Diocese.
According to him, Christians must be part of the political process of installing the right leadership in the country by ensuring that they get their voters card and participate in the 2023 general elections.
The Cleric applauded President Muhammadu Buhari for signing the Electoral Bill into law, noting that it will ensure a credible electoral process.
Rt. Rev. Igwe, however, raised concerns over the rising spate of insecurity in the country, saying that it has worsened the socio-economic challenges of the country with an impending food crisis that will affect majority of Nigerians.
“While we appreciate the effort of the government in addressing the situation and the sacrifice of the security agencies in dealing with the challenges, the reality being experienced by ordinary Nigerians is that the good efforts of the government is inadequate and needs to be re-evaluated for a better solution,” Rt. Rev. Igwe said.
The Cleric further called on the government to exhibit strong political will in addressing the welfare and conditions of service of workers so as to stop the incessant strike by different workers’ union, especially in the education sector.
Earlier in his lead presentation, the outgoing Lay President, Diocese of Umuahia West, Dr. Nelson Uwaga, called on Christians to be wary of fake prophets operating with magical powers, adding that they should be prayerful, follow and believe in the scripture always.
“Even Jesus Christ Himself warned his disciples about false prophets that will rise and perform wonders to lead astray, if possible the elect.
“The greatest challenge of Christianity today remains the myriads of these false prophets, teachers and magicians. Sadly, many will not make heaven because they have been deceived by these false prophets,” Dr. Uwaga added.
Also in his sermon, the Presbyter, Methodist Church of Nigeria, Gwarimpa, Very. Rev. John Uche, admonished leaders to live a life of service to God and humanity.
