The Blakes Resort, Garki was agog on May 11, when lovers of reggae music gathered to celebrate their HV idol and legendary king of roots Rock reggae.
The extravaganza organized by the management of Blakes, to commemorate the death Bob Marley who died in the US while on tour May 11, a day set aside to honour him worldwide.
Oge Kimono daughter of the rub-a-dub master and Rhumba Style crooner set the stage on fire with her electrifying performance, sending the crowd into a wild frenzy. Oge Kimono whose stock in trade is to mesmerize her audience with energetic, non stop stage craft started her journey into the music world as a back up singer for her father before travelling to Germany where she worked with some great Jamaican reggae icons whenever they came on tour. Little wonder it was she conquered stage freight and mastered the act of dazzling the audience with her strength and ability to hold the crowd hostage.
After Oge’s impressive performance during which she also rendered copiously some hit tracks of Ras Kimono, a rousing ovation from the overjoyed fans that appreciated her artistic prowess and showmanship complemented by the in-house band lent credence to the fact she is heading to the top of global entertainment circle.
The Sweet Band led by Kaycee Kline took the stage and gave a good account of themselves by thrilling the revellers with Bob Marley songs, alongside the energetic dancers and back up singers, featuring Steve O the thunder drummer, Ofio Flat on trumpet, Joe Divine on vocals and others.
Bob Marley day is a global event happening at the same time and Abuja was not left out as reggae die hard followers did same at One man village at a show put up by Reggae Club, a group of rastas and reggae presenters led by DJ Kanahit of Aso radio.
