The chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC),Enugu state chapter,Hon Barr Ugochukwu Agballah, has said that henceforth Enugu state chapter of the party under his watch will live up to expectations as an opposition party,with intention of ending the monopoly PDP is enjoying in Enugu state,come 2023 general elections.
Barr Ugo Agballah who dropped this hints while giving an appraisal of the peaceful and successful party primaries of the party held across the state,however attributed the control of politics of Enugu state by PDP to what he described as leaking oppositionThe offered by APC in the state.
The AUTHORITY checks reveals that PDP has cornered all the elective positions in the state since the 2003 elections,producing all chairman of the 17 local government areas,24 members of the state assembly, all legislators to the National assembly and the governorship seat of the state up till the last general elections.
The Enugu state chairman, Barr Agballah boasted that the trend must be revised through credible and viable opposition from his team, describing Enugu state polity as very lamentable and not obtained in any other state in Nigeria.
Barr Ugo Agballah who was a foundation member of Enugu PDP and played significant roles to the emergence of Senator Chimaroke Nnamani, as the state governor in 1999, thereafter resigned his portfolio as the state commissioner for works to challenge the PDP on the platform of the then APGA, told news men that he joined and assumed the mantle of leadership of APC in Enugu state so as to rekindle a strong opposition that will salvage Enugu state from bad governance and dictatorship which PDP plans to re introduce in Enugu state in 2023.
Answering questions on speculations that some PDP political stalwarts including Senator Ike Ekweremadu, are planning to join APC, Barr Ugo Agballah described the insinuations as true but that he objected to Senator Ekweremadu’s bargain to be accorded the 2023 Enugu state governorship flag bearer of the party.
He stated “We shall accept Ekweremadu to become a member of APC,but we cannot give him our governorship ticket. Ekweremadu want to be governor but the governorship seat of Enugu state is zoned to Enugu East senatorial district. Ekweremadu my brother is from Enugu West senatorial district just like me”.
” As at today,He is not a member of APC..Nobody can give him a waiver to substitute the primaries we have conducted “,Agballah stated.
