North east favoured as Tinubu set to announce running mate today

By Ezeocha Nze

The presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu will today, announce his running mate, just as the deadline given by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for Political parties to upload the names of their candidates ends on Friday.

The AUTHORITY gathered that the party, which may have finally settled for a Muslim/Muslim ticket has equally favoured the North East zone to produce the Vice Presidential candidate.

Sources close to the candidate revealed that he has been in series of close door meetings with President Muhammadu Buhari to finalize the choice who must be a younger person from among the youth in his 50s.

Investigations further revealed that the odds favour a former Secretary, Buhari Support Group (BSG) and ally of the President from the days of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) and Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), Dr. Ibrahim Bello Dauda to clinch the prime post.

Dauda, an Economist and Management Consultant from Borno State is said to have the support of party chieftains especially the CPC bloc since the New PDP and the Action Congress of Nigeria (CAN) have taken the position of the National Chairman and Presidential ticket respectively.

Also, the party in settling for a Muslim/Muslim ticket decided that the VP ticket should be ceded to the north east for a political balancing.

The preferred candidate apart from being a seasoned party faithful is said to be highly dedicated and loyal to the party, far more than his contemporaries.

He worked tirelessly with President Buhari and APC to ensure the party took over power from the PDP in 2015 and has remained a loyal party faithful.
