FCT Police command arrests, charges Sowore’ surety to court

By Hassan Zaggi

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has confirmed that it has arrested and charged to court one Mr Abubakar Marshall, who stood as surety and got Mr Omoyele Sowore released on bail.

The Surety,  however, seems to have betrayed the confidence the police had on him by failing to return Mr. Sowore to the police as promised, hence, the arrest.

The confirmation by the FCT Police Command followed series of rumours making the round in the social media about the arrest of the Sowore’ surety- Mr. Abubakar Marshall.

While confirming the arrest, the FCT Police Public  Relations Officer, DSP Josephine Adeh, said Mr Sowore’s Surety, Abubakar  Marshall was arrested and “charged to court following his failure to produce the suspect. This is in line with standard best practices.”

It would be recalled that Sowore was arrested on  February 24, 2022, as a result of a petition against Sahara Reporters Foundation and Mr Omoyele Sowore for criminal defamation, injurious falsehood publication of news known to be false contrary to section 391, 392, 393, 394, 395 and 418 of the Penal code of Northern Nigeria” by former member House of Representatives, Prince Ned Nwoko through his lawyers Trifold Law & Partners.

Findings indicated that after getting  Sowore released on bail, all efforts to get the Surety to return Sowore to the Police failed. The Surety also failed to pick his calls or respond to text messages.

The petition signed by Bryan U. Ukaegbu on behalf of the law firm  further accused Sowore of several defamatory statements through his news outfit-Sahare Reporters, social media handles aimed at running down their client’s business and political career.
