Ahead of the continued search for its vice presidential candidate, protesters defied the morning downpour on Tuesday to register their rejection of the proposed amd controversial Muslim-Muslim ticket by the All Progressives Congress at the party’s national secxretariat in Abuja.
The protest followed rumours that the APC presidential candidate, Bola Tionubu may have settled to forward the name of a fellow Muslim as his running mate to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to Ibrahim Masari, who he had named as a placeholder, ahead of the 2023 presidential poll.
The decision did not resonate well with many Nigerians including religious leaders and organisations such as the Christian Association of Nigeria, which warned political parties not to tread the path of religious bigotry.
Defying Tuesday’s heavy rains, several protesters gathered in front of the APC Secretariat screaming and carrying banners that reflect ‘Nigerians won’t vote Muslim-Muslim leaders in 2023 elections.’
The demonstrators, who arrived in three luxury buses, picketed the party headquarters while security officials detailed at the secretariat threatened to disperse them if they pushed their luck beyond the protest
