2023: Gov Wike too valuable to PDP, says BoT chairman

Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Walid Jibrin has state that Rivers state Governor, Nyesom Wike remains very valuable to the party, and will not be allowed to leave the PDP for any other political party, ahead of the 2023 general elections

The BoT chairma therefore noted that the party will do whatever it takes to ensure that Governor Wike, does not defect.

Jibrin stated this on Monday while addressing journalists in Kaduna.

It would be recalled Wike, who lost out to former vice president, Atiku Abubakar, in the PDP presidential primary, was also not considered by the PDP presidential candidate as his running mate.

Wike, who accused party stakeholders from the south of “betrayal” after his loss at the primaries, has held talks with two presidential candidates, Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP) and Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Port Harcourt, ahead of the 2023 elections, fueling speculations that Wike may dump the opposition partyBut Jibrin said: “We in PDP know how to solve our problems. We know that Governor Nyesom Wike may not be happy.

“It is the intention of this party to constitute a reconciliation committee that will meet Wike to talk to him, appeal to him, and pray that he will not leave our party.” Jubrin stated

Jibrin described Wike as “a great man who has been fighting for the party, and the party will not want to see him move to another party.

“We will all visit Wike together and if it means kneeling to him, we will kneel for him,” the BoT chairman added.

“We commiserate with his family, colleagues, friends, and management of the Pilot Newspaper on this sad incident. May God give his wife, children, and all those who hold him dear the fortitude to bear the irreplaceable loss and may his gentle soul rest in peace.’ INEC stated
