Nigeria , China seal pacts on Magazine production, others

China’s Contemporary World(Nigeria) Magazine yesterday signed an agreement with Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution of Nigeria(IPCR) on joint production of Magazine .

The Director-General of Institute  of Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR), Dr Bakut T. Bakut signed on Nigerian side , while the Directing Officer , Chinese Embassy in Nigeria ,Wu Baocai signed on China side.

Speaking in Abuja yesterday after the signing ceremony,  the Director-General of Institute  of Peac and Conflict Resolution (IPCR), Dr Bakut T. Bakut said the Magazine would focus on issues covering governance,  international relations, poverty eradication development and culture among others. 

He said that the Magazine would be published in Nigeria and be distributed through Nigerian embassies abroad. 

“It is a Magazine but not just ordinary magazine that is seen on the road but this is intellectual high magazine which focused on issues that are not sentimental.  We will look at the real issues of governance,  international relations, deep knowledge development , poverty eradication , culture environmental issues.  These are issues that the Magazine will cover.

“The Magazine will come inform of journal format . Therefore,  it would be published in Nigeria here with the ISBN number which is Nigeria but it is a joint Magazine which China will be typesetting from there while we do the final production here. And about sixty set of contributors will come from china and 40% will come from us. Distribution will be in Nigeria and not just in Nigeria but all over Africa. We are going to distribute the Magazine through Nigerian embassies in the whole Africa. Then, there is a cover price for Nigeria and the cover price for the international markets.  

“For international markets, the Chinese will fix that one but for us in Nigeria the price would be N1,000 per magazine copy . Whether you are buying in Nigeria or in Nigerian High Commission in Ghana,  the price will be N1,000,” he said.

He said the Magazine will be launched in September this year.

“In the next three months we are going to have a celebration.  The next one will be bringing out the Magazine on September.  We will have the first edition of the Magazine then. You will be invited and you can buy copies. You know our country don’t have money now and we need to make money through this for our country. So, every three months we will have a series that will come out.”

Also, speaking,  the Chinese Ambassador CUI Jianchun who witnessed the signing ceremony said the joint Magazine will promote peace and harmony.

” This is a very powerful Magazine all over the world. So, we need peace and we need resolution.”
