Plateau: Flood ravages 13 communities, over 200 houses, farms destroyed in Langtang South

Some communities in Langtang South Local Government Area of Plateau State were on Monday night ravaged by flood, destroying properties and leaving scores displaced.

It was gathered that the flood in the aforementioned Council affected 13 communities, submerging ovee200 houses with several farms affected.

It was also gathered that some bridges leading to some communities were destroyed.

Meantime, some residents of the affected community told our correspondent that heavy downpour which lasted for several hours on Monday night led to the destruction of the properties .

According Emmanuel Nanpak a resident of Mabudi, “several homes were submerged in Mabudi, Lashel, Turaki, Gehetu, Karkasi Magama among other communities”.

Nanpak claimed he lost all his life’s savings requested for government assistance.

Another citizen who gave his name as Nankar Adams, said the flood disaster signals, “an impending hunger in the locality, because several major farmers were affected.

While confirming the incident, Chairman of the Council Hon Vincent Bulus said, “Its sad to hear about the flood that swept Mabudi community of Langtang South which resulted to destruction of properties worth millions of naira .

“I sympathize with the victims of the flood and the entire Mabudi community.

“It has become necessary for communities, individuals and us as authorities to take proactive measures.

Bulus added that we need to believe that prevention is better and cheaper than cure, as well as consider climate change issues more seriously.
