National Link Chapel of Anambra State Council of Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) has expressed worry over the spate of insecurity and poor condition of roads in the industrial town of Nnewi.
The chapel expressed this concern in a communique at the end of their meeting which held at Nnewi on Wednesday.
The group condemned the total neglect of all the roads, in Nnewi North Local Government Area of the state.
The journalists said that it is worrisome that all the
federal, state and local government roads in Nnewi have been totally abandoned.
The chapel stressed that the poor state of roads in Nnewi have affected the business of which town is known for, due to traffic hold ups and time wastage on the roads.
They however commended individuals who have been sand filling the numerous potholes in the city.
“We appeal to the state government, federal government and all relevant agencies saddled with the responsibility of maintaining the road infrastructure to come to the aid of the industrial town of Nnewi, so that the city can still maintain her status as the Japan of Africa for which she known for.
“We also condemned in strong terms the resurgence of kidnapping in Nnewi and it’s environs which has also adversely affected business and the psyche of the people living in the industrial city.” The communique stressed.
The journalists therefore challenged the security agencies to rise to the occasion in combating crime and criminal behavior in Nnewi.
