The National Association of Seadogs also known as Pirates Confraternity, has conducted a free-medical outreach, for Isu community, in Etche Local Government Area of Rivers state.
The outreach was part of the social responsibility of the group to service to humanity. The programme was organised by the Olympus Marino Deck of NAS.
Addressing newsmen at the event, the Capoon of Olympus Marino deck, Barr Iche Cecil Wordu, said the advocacy group had institutionalized October 1, as a day set aside to carry out free medical outreach on identified indigent communities.
He disclosed “We chose Isu community for this year’s outreach, because our investigation revealed that, she lacks basic amenities, as portable water, health facilities, electricity supply, among others.”
“Our services here are mainly in the areas of malaria, hypertension, dental issues, eyes problems, diabetics among others, with commensurate drugs and materials comprising mosquito nets, sanitary pads, as well as medical counseling.
Wordu revealed that the deck partnered Rotary Club Port Harcourt in the delivery of the free medical services. He noted that Joinkrama community, in Ahoada benefitted from their outreach last year.
“In this humanitarian efforts we give hope to the hopeless, love to abandoned, dejected. The people are happy with us, hence the large turn out, and we are targeting 800 – 1500 patients.
“As advocacy group, we are made up of professionals. We constructively draw governments’ attention to societal ills, as the lingering ASUU strike, insecurity, joblessness,” he affirmed.
In his response, the traditional ruler of the community Ochimba of Isu community, Eze Nickolas Ordu expressed gratitude to the group, saying such was the first of its kind, since the birth of the community.
Eze Wordu assured the group of maximum cooperation and protection, affirming that their community is a very peaceful one, and further urged his people to take full advantage of the free medication
