2023: Vote pedigree, integrity  not political parties, cleric advises Nigerians

By Hassan Zaggi

The Bishop of Kubwa Diocese, Methodist Church of Nigeria, Rt. Rev. Chikwendu Organ Igwe , has admonished Nigerians to, come 2023, vote leaders who have the pedigree, integrity, accountability and transparency into various positions at all levels of government.

While giving the charge during the unveiling of his new book titled: Biblical Church Discipline and the Christian Witness as part of activities to mark his 60th birthday anniversary, the cleric advised Nigerians against voting base on political parties.

The cleric further stressed that virtues of discipline, integrity, accountability and transparency should be the key attributes Nigerians look out for in those to vote into power come 2023.

He, however, expressed concern that some of the politicians seeking public office have question marks on their personality and wondered what kind of leadership they would provide if voted into office.

“Are those seeking public office living up to their words and expectations of the people? What is their track record? You cannot hide a good life.

“It is not a matter of trying to do image laundry. We need people that have been exemplary and not those who use public office to enrich themselves. The Holy Bible says by their fruits you shall know them,” the Bishop reiterated.

Rt. Rev. Igwe, however, noted that the pulse from the people showed that it is not going to be business as usual during next year’s election, as according to him, Nigerians are now ready to vote for those they can hold  accountable.

Speaking further, the Cleric noted that Nigeria is a nation with great potentials, insisting that such potentials can only be harnessed by a disciplined leadership.

“It is one thing to have potentials spiritually and materially but the potentials people have cannot make the desired impact if they are not disciplined.

“Nigeria is very much endowed but lacks disciplined leadership. Most of its citizens are also indiscipline. So I had the burden to write this book as advocacy to institutionalise discipline.”
