NDDC: Group backs sack of NNDC Sole Administrator by Buhari

By Ben Ogbemudia, Abuja

A political pressure group known as Network for Grassroots Development has commended the President and Commander-In- Chief of the Armed Forces Of The Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari , for standing on the side of the people and rule of law by removing with immediate effect the former Sole Administrator of the Niger Delta Development Commission, Effiong Okon Akwa from Office with effect from 20th October, 2022.

UKATO, Thomas, Co-Administrator of the group in a signed statement made available to journalists in Abuja said with this action of Mr President coming barely after two weeks of their call on him to reverse the illegality in the management of the NDDC , they are confident that the rule of law will soon return to the interventionist commission for the benefits of the member states of the commission.

“We therefore urge Mr. President and the National Assembly to recall the already appointed, screened and confirmed governing board members of the commission and inaugurate the board in line with Section 5 of the NDDC Act, 2000 having regard also on the current oil and gas production quota of the nine states of the NDDC.

“Once again we sincerely appreciate Mr. President for his action, although coming late, but it is better late than never. We consider his action as most appropriate at this point in time as it is certainly in the interest of the people of the Niger Delta and other State members of the Commission.”
