Chanja Datti, GBF empower waste pickers in Giri

About 400 waste pickers operating in Giri and environs in the Federal Capital Territory have received personal protection equipments to enhance their safety on the job.

The donation on Friday was made by Chanja Datti, a waste collection and recycling company, with the support of Growing Business Foundation, GBF.

Chief Executive Officer, Chanja Datti, Ms. Olufunto Borroffice said the beneficiaries were receiving the support to encourage continue to keep the environment clean through pickings recyclable waste like plastic waste, paper waste etc from gutters and other places.

Director Solid waste management and technology division of the pollution control and environmental health department, Federal Ministry of Environment, Usman Bookani commended the organisers saying the program is in line with plans of the government to keep the environment clean and healthy.

He urged Nigerians to health conscious and imbibe spirit of cleanliness by disposing their dirt properly.

A representative of GBF, Samson Olukolu said the organization is collaborating with Chanja Datti to solve the problems of plastic pollution which can lead to flooding.

The beneficiaries in an interview commended the organisers for providing a source of livelihood for them.
