We Will Ensure Credible,  Verifiable Elections In Kano,  Says New  INEC Kano REC

From Maduabuchi Nmeribeh,  Kano

The new Kano Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC)  of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC),   Ambassador Zango A.  Abdu, has promised that his team will ensure credible and verifiable elections in Kano State.

The new Kano REC,  stated this while officially assuming duty.

He expressed gratitude to INEC staff in Kano for the warm reception accorded him and promised to carry all along in the discharge of his duty.

He said: “Let me start by expressing my profound appreciation for the warm welcome and wonderful reception extended to me since my arrival in Kano. I believe this is a clear indication that you have accepted me as part of the INEC Family in Kano, an honor I am very delighted to accept wholeheartedly.

“About a week ago, we took our Oath of Office as Resident Electoral Commissioners. During the occasion, the Chairman of INEC, Professor Mahmood Yakubu reiterated the need for all to demonstrate commitment to free, fair, credible, transparent and verifiable elections. Professor Yakubu stressed the fact that pursuing this course is not only in line with the Oath of Office we willingly submitted ourselves to but indeed the path to honour and integrity.

“Accordingly, I wish to align myself with this commitment to ensure free, fair, credible and transparent elections in Kano State. Let me also assure the staff and the entire people of Kano State that I will discharge my duties with utmost regard for neutrality, non-partisanship, transparency and strict compliance with the provisions of the law, the Commission’s Code of Conduct, Regulations and Guidelines.

“Over the years, INEC has made considerable progress in reforming the electoral process. Technology and related innovations as well as the efforts of a dedicated staff have ushered in a new era of hope in the conduct of elections in Nigeria. I urge all of us to continue on that trajectory until we achieve the ultimate goal of establishing a virile democratic political system where the will of the people to choose those who govern them is entrenched as a norm in Nigeria. I pledge to provide leadership, be a team player guided by fairness and justice to all as we face the task ahead with total resolve.

“Finally, as we diligently prepare for the elections, let me once again appeal to the entire citizens of Kano State especially the political class to demonstrate confidence in the process by conducting themselves peacefully, play according to the rules, devoid of violence and acrimony. I am indeed delighted to be here and look forward to a difficult but positive outcome in the months ahead.”
