CBN warns customers not to accept old notes from banksBy Abubakar Yakubu in Lafia

The Director of Security Services, Central Bank of Nigeria (ÇBN), Atiku M. Nasir has called on residents of Nasarawa State to reject the about to be phased out N200, N500 and N1000 notes that are being issued by some banks in the state.
The director, who stated this during his recent visit to Lafia in Nasarawa State, disclosed that the CBN will sanction such banks and urged residents to reject such notes from bank counters or ATMs.

“When you go to any bank and are issued the old N200, N500 and N1000 notes, you will be collecting tissue paper as such notes will not be accepted from January 31,* hr warned.
According to him, the CBN has supplied adequate new Naira notes of that denominations to various banks, adding that report such banks still issuing such notes to the CBN for appropriate action.
The director later listened to complaints from traders and other residents during a sensitization meeting organized by the CBN, before his team went on an inspection visit to banks complained about and caught bank officials dispensing such notes.
