As the count down to the 2023 General election begins with less than three weeks to the February 25 scheduled Presidential and National assembly elections, the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP), Enugu state chapter, looks good in retaining most if not all elective political positions in the state.
This stems from the fact that the party has remained the most organised and peaceful party in the state.
The utmost peace and and harmony that is trailing the current climax of political activities and campaigns in the state, amidst the existence of concrete opposition is unparralled, when compared to the previous elections.
The implication of the thriving opposition in Enugu state is the fact PDP and it’s candidates are stepping up actions, not minding the fact that PDP is the ruling party in the state.
A typical example where the PDP in Enugu state is
at peace, accommodating the opposition but steadfast ln the campaigns is Awgu/Aninri/OjI River Federal Constiuency.
The man behind the mask, the PDP candidate Engr.（Dr）Anayo Onwuegbu, in his campaign strategies and projects accommodates all, irrespective of party of affiliation.
For instance, In his passion to leevarage the pains of the rural dwellers and several others, who returned home for the last Christmas, Engr(Dr Onwuegbu in his humane nature, mobilised earth working equipments from his company, ANBEEZ services ltd, to grade several rural roads cut accross the three local government areas also reffered as Greater Awgu, to impact on the people.
Checks revealed that his vigorous campaigns under the aegis of ‘ Omeiheukwu Campaign Organisation’ has toured almost the 81 wards that make up Aninri/Awgu/Oji River Federal Constituency, gaining massive assurance from the grass roots.
Engr Dr Onwuegbu, who is the Chairman/ Managing Director, ANBEEZ services Ltd, an indigeneous construction,has been a prominent figure contributing and strenghtening party politics in the state.
His contributions in the socio economic and political development of Enugu state earned him the title of ‘Ebube Enugu state’ and ‘OMEIHEUKWU’ of his immediate community Akpugoeze. in Oji River local government area.
He has remained a faithful and one of the strong pillars of PDP in Enugu state. He had an eye on the governorship seat in 2015, but stepped down during the PDP primaries when it became abundantly clear that the zoning of the governorship seat favoured Enugu North Senatorial district. To that extent and in the interest of harmony within the party, Dr Onwuegbu collapsed his structure and has maitained absolute loyalty to the party hierachy in the state.
Political analysts and stakeholders especially of Greater Awgu axis of Enugu state, irrespective of party of affiliation hold the view that it is the caliber of personalities like Dr Onwuegbu,who is more of a technocrat are needed to consolidate on infrastructural development of their rural areas, counting on his experience as a civil engineer.
Dr Onwuegbu will be taking after Hon Toby Okechukwu, who will be completing his third term tenure as federal legislator of the constituency at the end of this dispensation.
